Annnnnnnyyyyyyywaaayyyysssss.... This question is NOT to be mistaken for who is the best rapper of all time, that requires a completely DIFFERENT set of criteria and thus shall not be mentioned henceforth (we alll know it's NaS but shhhh)

THE VERDICT

Without getting to fucking deep and boring for you, i narrowed my list to a final THREE (3,) with TWO(2) notable mentions which i will now break down BREIFLY(for you lazy non-reading folks) and choose my winner.

First up is that nigga from the Chi city... Mr. Kardashian, Mr. I'll smash your camera.... Yeezus, Yeezi.... Kanye West. Let's be clear... Kanye Got at leastt 2 classics(no matter how you chop it up), which is fuckin stellar and the rest are EXCELLENT albums at worst... so right there he is first candidate. Impact-wise there has been NONE like him. Ye pushes the bar with every single release, where it be the music, the concept, the presentation, no one Kanye project sounds like the other and nothing ever in hip hop sounds like any of it, so naturally that impacted on the culture immensely. College Dropout was his debut album, a classic at that and for the entire album to be so relevant still is super commendable. The sampling used by kanye on that album and the messages about success and school, and the true importance of each was eye opening. MBDTF his other classic, shoook the world... literally (my fuckin house was trembling at the sounds of Dark Fantasy opening the album). It was the most iconic non-hip hop, hip hop album of our time receiving OVERWHELMING critical acclaim for how daring and different Ye was able to make the genre sound.

I wouldn't be fuckin real if Nas was not mentioned here.... despite the obvious fact that he is my favourite rapper of ALL TIME and THE GAWD EMCEEE, THE GOAT, THE FUCKIN KING, excetera excetera..... I'm being COMPLETELY un-biased here. It's impossible to have four classics and not be mentioned in the list (grow up haters!) Anywaysss Illmatic is the greatest rap album of all time, and it's barely arguable ( like you would have to realllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy fuckin try to deny that). Its impact on rap is STILL being talked about today. All great albums are compared to it as if it is THE yardstick of what a perfect hiphop album should be. Furthermore i cannot begin to list the amount of lines and flows this album influenced over the years... It Was Written, NaS' first concept album is heralded as another classic, many even consider it to be better that Illmatic. The storytelling on that album is matched only by Slick rick The Ruler (go and listen to I Gave You Power... shoot yourself if u disagree) and the mainstream success of songs like If I ruled The World goes without questioning. Stillmatic was NaS' comeback froma terrrible slump and his destruction of the other hiphop king at the time, Jay Z(no hyphen son). Classic tracks like One Mic(NaS' ode to hip hop) and Got Yourself A Gun and Rewind(whooo the fuck ever or will ever write a song tellin a story backwards... gotdamnit!) make this modern day classic a must listen.

Last but not least, THE TWO COOLEST MUPHACKAZ to ever team up, Andre 3tacks and Big Boi. From that late 90's to early 2000's outkast was tossing classic our way, so much so by the time you got into your guaranteed 1000th spin(everybody who ever listened to and outkast album ever listen to it one thousand times mimimum) they flung another one at you. 3 stacks is hailed as one of the greatest rappers of all time(he aint on my top 10 but still) and as a result he brought Southern hip hop into relevance and was tussling with New York rappers bar for bar(the birthplace of this great genre). Honestly, some tracks on Aquemini are NOT to be fucked with g, ever. Da Art Of Storytellin pt. 1 n 2...... i'll leave it at that. The Speakerboxx/The Love Below won the GRAMMY for ALBUM OF THE YEAR it sold 10 Million copies b... WHAT?! It was the second hiphop album ever to win the award(OBVIOUSLY MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL WAS THE FIRST) and no one has since... that is stellar. Outkast's albums brought that coool sound and are arguably one of the most unique sounding records you will here.

NOTABLE MENTIONS

Tupac Shakur OBVIOUSLY. Impact-wise he as a rapper is unmatched. "Pac was like jesus..." Said J. Cole (75% of you readin this favourite rapper right now). Why he didn't make the final three... his debut album was very under the radar and unimpactful... also all eyez on me, although hailed as a classic, didn't move me like Me Against the World or 7 Day Theory. I think Tupac the artist and person impacted the culture more than his actual discography. Seldom is Pac's albums mentioned as something that changed the game or influenced a different sound etc. More so his flow and individualism and some great records... but not discography as a whole, which is clearly the title of my post b.

Jay Z mayne, i mean... i ain't the biggest Jay Z fan...i literally forced him into my Top 5... with his simple flowing ass. But give jacket his jacket. The Blueprint is second to illmatic when it comes to impact on the culture. Though reasonable doubt is clearly Hov's best work, The Blueprint si the one that changed shit for rap. It wa responsible for the artist we know today as Kanye West, it was the iconic resume Hov threw in teh epic battle with NaS. It dropped Sept 11th 2001 and was played IN ITS ENTIRETY THROUGHOUT NEW YORK ON RADIO... on 9/11 b. come on... The Black Album was Hov'sa supposed retirement and it was the perfect way to bow out. EPIC. I hear that album and when i close my eyes i see fireworks and parades and lights, with trumpets n shit playin just something a fuckin king would expect if he was to walk through the streets of a one of his coloniess unno... Hov had his Queen Elisabeth swag on full 100. Why didn't Hov make my top 3? Dem Vol. 1+2+3 was weakkk and forgettable, not to mention The BP 2 (pukeeeee) Hov dumped some giant turd on his catalog, but the high points deserve some astounding praise.

IN MY MUTHAFUCKIN OPINION, The undisputed winner of the Best Discography in Hip Hop award goes too....

KANYE WEST.

The Magna Carta Holy Grail

It was the night of game 5, of the 2013 NBA Finals... during the halftime show. ABC went on a commercial break and seemingly out of nowhere there was Jay Z, standing on a balcony with a masterful piano peace accompanying his actions as a background. The Ad was the official announcement of the release of Magna Carta Holy Grail, Hov's 13th studio album. Tha ad featured appearances from producers Timberland, Pharell, Swizz Beats and Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin aka Gandalf The Great (my nigga Orrin @OrrinJoseph said that shit, i thought that was funny as fuck), and were accompanied by an array of fuckin phenomenal instrumentals. This was it, in two weeks we were gonna have a new Hov record, TWO WEEKS. First 1million users of Samsung Galaxy s3's or Note I+II can had the option of downloading an app to get the album plus bonus material free(fuck you still tho Android, iphone all day baby!) With all this being said, we were primed for the release of an album with the most unique n hype marketing strategy ever in hiphop, and by Hiphop's biggest artist alive. So the question remains... did this shit live up to tha hype, is this the magnum opus, THE magna carta... Le Holy Grail (n all that other philosophical terminology n shit). Two words... FUCK YEA

The album starts off with a BANG, Justin Timberlake( that Robin Thicke wanna be) sings his ass off on that first track, that shit gives me goosebumps. Holy Grail is Hov detailing a celebrity's fight with fame and success, in quite a somber(it took me a while to spell that word, thanks Daniel) manner, but still it cmes across so epic and grand. Picasso Baby just slaps you across the face after (no really it does, that reord hopped out my CD player and slapped the shit outta me). Timberland produced one of the hardest beats in modern day rap, and the beat change at the end of the record?!?!!? I wasn't fuckin ready bruh, I literally had to stop the album and go for a walk, and like think about my life and goals... and whether or not I deserve this shit unno.(*phew*) The album takes a dip ( IN MY FUCKIN OPINION) at fuckwithmeyouknowigotit. No Rick Ross you actually don't got it, stop.(well not on this record at least) Hov's flow was boring-ish but for the purpos of the song it was aiteee, I ain't mad at it. Frank Ocean came in so classic on Oceans, it gives the song that introspective feel that Hov was conveying. He was rapping about life and life's journey's and trials and how everything you do or experience is like an ocean. (you know all that deep shit you Drake stans can't understand) This was a fuckin excellent track. FUTW is classic Hov, like this shit could slide onto the Blueprint and uoeno bruh. I LOVE this record, prolly my 4th of 5th off tha album. Somewhereinamerica can be summed up into 4 of the most classic words to date, "twerk miley miley twerk"... PHENOMENAL RECORD, a superb beat with Hov just going in on with that bragadocious flow. Heaven was Jay Z(oh btw Hov don't use hyphens no more #factsonly) getting personal and opening up about religion and his beliefs or disbeliefs, depending on how you take it. This is something most people are afraid to say, fuck it now though, Hov gave you permission to get real. On Part II Jay Z gave us real niggaz, unno with a HEART n shit (yea i actually like and love chicks, im emotional like that, #nohomo #factsonly) a song to ride to n share with that special someone. It a really cool way to express true love, with Beyonce on tha hook, its a classic hiphop/rnb duet, one of their better ones. Beach Is Better though.... WOOOOWWWWW!!!! Why the fuck is this 56 seconds yo, that is all i thought when i finished listening to this for the 900th time. Jay Z gave you authentic hiphop here, appreciate it. Then came that moment on the album i was fuckin slappin my sister in tha face repeatedly for BBC... one word, NAS. And when Hov came in on the 2nd verse like "imma make sure you hear my muhfuckin jewelry *shakes chains*" This song was fresshhhh and Pharell gave us a beat for the ages here yo... this was like my 2nd favourite song. Jaz Z saw Hov giving us another potential classic, getting very personal about his relationship with his daughter, but from the future.... a possible one where himself and Beyonce have divorced and he is apologising to his daughter for the life she will have. Very unique spin on the father daughter topic, great song. Nickels and Dimes sound like that Blueprint Hov too yo, an inspirational record for like his past homies or people in general, detailing how having a money making mindset can reap success, and also giving back. A rare style of record from J but much needed.

Overall , after touching on most of the songs(not all, because well I ain't wanna bore you) I found the album to be veryyy complete and such a great album. Where it stands in the grand scheme of the historical 3 weeks in hiphop (Born Sinner, Gifted, Yeezus, Watching Movies and MCHG) will be addressed in a special blog post later on, but for now behold the Magnum Opus of modern day albums. Lemme school you dummies a bit. The Magna Carta document (in a fuckin nutshell and in layman's terms) was a document signed and passed by a King a long fuckin time ago, like the 1200's or sumtin, that ordered the powers that be to decrease taxes and remove some other stringent rules/laws that were in place at the time... basically a document that showed the people another way to live, and freeed them from the supreme norms to an extent. Much like the actual document, MCHG showed the hiphop community severalll things some of  which are; You can go platinum before your music is released, you can drop an album two weeks after releasing it with the right marketing, You can give out a million copies of your album for free but still go gold in the first week, you can release lyrics instead of singles... and the list goes fuckin on. This, much like Yeezus, had many first-times and created an avenue for future hiphop artists or artists in general, to walk a new path. That coupled with the phenomenal music I detailed above, makes for a great album. On the list of Hov albums where does it rank you ask?! Look out for that "lists" series on my blog nigga! #HipHopMade

My rating of this album, anywhere from a 9.25 - 9.5 outta 10. Go BUY THE SHIT ON ITUNES/PHYSICALLY GOTDAMNIT!
If you don't like my review.... "Just let em be great."
Peace bruh!

TRACK REVIEW: Dead Presidents pt. 3 || Versace || Winter Schemes

Jay-Z - Dead Presidents III (prod. by Guru)

When I put this on, it felt like 1996 all over again, my wordddddd. Reasonable Doubt Hov came back from circa 96' to bless us with that mafioso magic. This track is almost as good as the original DP. Guru made a classic beat, he took us back to that Golden Age of hiphop, first magic attribute of this track. Secondly, Hov, flow... SHIT! Again, if you listen to music and don;t just skim through it, you would be aware of the classic Hov debut album Reasonable Doubt. At that point in Jay-Z's career he was in the age of Nas Pac n Big, arguably the 3 greatest and Hov switched his fast spittin flow, to a more melow pace for that album, n made a perfect record. SAME HERE!!! Jay-z recently (refereing to WTT Hov) has been giving ur numerous new flow to match with an ever changing trend in beats, but for the 1st time in a while he just did him. It sounded effortless. Finally lyrics, no questioning the lyricism on this blockbuster of a track. "yesterday i was kneadin this dough, get it needin this dough" WHAT?!?! "Mirrors far behind me because i think to forward" WHAT?!?! Aite im done jizzin... 9.5/10

Migos ft. Drake - Versace (prod. Zaytroven) <---whoever the fuck that is

SMH... why Drake why?!? This beat is so anti-drake, the name of the instrumental should be Ekard (slow ppl wont get that). We let is slide with started from the bottom... but these trap beats aren't for you bruh, im sorry. Let alone one as annoying as this one. Drake does spit a decent verse here i must admit, apart from the standard lame struggle drake bars, he was good here, a great flow too... but this beat just fucked up. I guarantee you if drake spit this accapella and released it on itunes, it'll sell more than this bs. Let's not mention the hook... "Versace" x59  ro sum very excessive number. smh repetitive and just so intolerable. This song on the whole was a harrd listen, i listened to it 10 times btw. Then Quavo (a guy from the group and who did the hook) spits the next verse. VERY mediocre but i must admit went his real voice came out, i kina was feelin it. Sorta like Juicy J. Takeoff and Offset came and spit some struggle bars as well, on their 2 respective. Im unaware of the purpose of this song, but by trap music standards even, i cannot reall get wit this, i can;t say it is good, apart from Drake's verse... mehh. 3.5-4/10 Gimmie some Jeezy, 2 Chainz, TJ, Keef, KRIT etc...

J. Cole ft. Wale - Winter Schemes (prod. Jake One)

This track is fireeeeeee. Two up and coming rappers, on the heels of their respective albums, show us why the torch bearers need not worry, hiphop is in safe hands. Cole starts the track off raw af! I was impressed with his passion and flow, very "Warm Up" like, classic Cole. Den boom, he actually says Warm Up 2 on the way!!! Cole fans surely picked up on dat n gon be checkin online erryday for that. His honesty about tha Buggatti in Beyonce's video kina feshh too and funny. Colle has a way of using really simple words soo effectively when he rhymes... very much like Yeezi. When WALE comes in tho *nuclear bomb explosion* WTF, dis is that More About Nothing/Gifted Wale...more mature but still fuckin hard no assss. Wale got so much lyrical ability dat most neverrrr see it. His double entendres and metphors go fuckin harddd sumtimes. This man said "I pour up with bitches, my parking lot's effecient... i play with foreigns boy, i feel like im Kuard Leonard" WHAT?!?!? if u aint get that then i dont expect u to like this song or Wale for that matter. Wale kina killed Cole on thsi one tho. Great beat by Jake One too! 8.5/10

Shout out to: Jamal @MastermindJamal

BORN SINNER: Track by Track Review

J. Cole is what i like to call the people’s Hero rapper. He is the rapper for the people and of the people. He left home with a dollar and a dream, went to NY city stood up in rain 3 times to meet Hov, never did. Dropped a classic mixtape n got signed by Hov?!?! Who the fuck doesn’t dream of that?! It’s what would happen in a perfect world of tryna make it as a rapper. That being said, nobody wants to see Superman wear a black cape and start saving another planet for a day.... so how does J. Cole evolve and still be Mr. Superhero? Born Sinner is testament to that, it exactly how one would do that. Allow me to take you through the world of a born sinner, through my eyes.

1. Villuminati
Cole sets out the tone for the album with the first words, “its way darker this time”.  On this track Cole gets a lil ignorant for a minute and just show cases a new flow, ridin his self produced beat like a muhfucka! I since a little Kanye inspiration with that things he says like “im bout to go and join illuminate, fuck everybody” This is the most energized ive heard Cole since God’s Gift. Great intro.

3. LAnd of the Snakes
Right off the bat i fuckin love the title. Cole is makin reference to  America with the use of the capital “A” in the word ( only if you didn’t ILLEGALLY DOWNLOAD THIS SHIT would you know that).  Cole samples a CLASSICCCCCCCCCC Outkast track here and pays homage to the legends on the very first line... “this is the shit i used to roll down lewis st with” Cole spits some real life scenarios on the track and even gets personal on teh last verse in a ina funny way wit that chick(we’ve all been there before...AWKWARD) lol great track.

4. Power Trip
“would you believe me if i said im in loveeeeeee!!!!!” Need i fuckin say more?! Miguel slaughtered that hook, i cried to this song... no homo, i was going through some shit. But yea great single by Cole, classic video too.

5. Mo Money
THISSS is why niggaz compare Cole to the GOAT, Escobar, NaSty, Mr. Jones, Queensbridge’s finest... NAS. Frankly Cole is lightyears away from the god emcee, but ever so often when the stars align... i see him in that NaS light. Mo Money was a classic track, Cole uses the word money in all its meanings here, sick double entendres and that Boom Bap flow. CRAZY

6. Trouble
This is like my second favourite track on the album straight up. Cole takes the topic “trouble” and put some neat spins on it... really cool. I aint really fucked wit the corny lyric “gunshots inna the air... and i aint scared for my life”... cmon Cole... cmon... dah was a kina Drake move. (rmb da tough guy line in Lord Knows lmaooo) Good song tho, Cole shows strong song making skills on this record.

7. Runaway
When this started i was pissed, cuz it sounded like some shit from Take Care... but then Cole started spittin and it was aiteee. I dig the purpose of this song. It comes from a real man’s perspective... we ALL go through the duality of being in love an being a man. I love the vulnerability and emotion here. Great song.

8. She Knows
I love the hook on this song, Cole sounds good singing surprisingly. The verses were kina mediocre but a cool song nonetheless. We all love that classic line tho...”i got a bitch on my dick right now, and she just wanna sing on it!!!”

9. Rich Niggaaz
Again, dis is that NaS Cole. The subject matter is that classic social commentary vybze. What hiphop was built from. The flow was a little bit hit n miss for me, but i love the concept. This is why he is the people’s hero. Great song Cole

11. Forbidden Fruit
CLASSIC!!! TIMELESS!!! PHENOMENAL!!!  Best song on the album for sure. Cole flipped that Electric Relaxation sample like he was Pete Rock fused into Kanye West and No ID. Kendrick on the hook... “ohh lawd” This is such a great Song... it will make a perfect single and video, all the elements to be a hit and classic hiphop at the same time. Perfect from Cole.

12 Chaining Day
The concept and subject matter of this record have been done numerous times before, so as a hiphop head... it didn’t take me away like it did some people. Cole didn’t particularly do it too stellar also. It was just good enough unno... nuthin mind blowing. The hook was the weak point of this record. But an okay song.

13. Aint That Some Shit
I don’t even wanna tlk about this record. Worst song on the album. Very left field considering the tone of the album so far. Cole’s flow is nice... but that’s about it. The beat songs like a Young Money throwaway record... and Cole is forcing a style he has no business tryna copy. I was disappointed with this to be honest.

14. Crooked Smile
I’ll be honest here... i wasn’t feeling this record really. It doesn’t “sound” good in my opinion. It has that bouncy cheesey kina vybe to it, and i just can’t really get with it, especially on the heels of that semi dark period of the album. The idea of TLC on the hook was great tho. This song was made for them, looking at the topic n all. Great choice by Cole. The subject matter was good also, but idk i just couldn’t get with it, my 2nd least favourite. I thought Cole could have executed the concept in a way that would make for a greater song.

15. Let NaS Down
:’( :’( :’( Cole... why you let the god down?! Im glad you did tho... one word to sum up this record EMOTION. Cole gets maddd personal and real on this song, detailing the emotions he felt when he heard that nas hated his debut single. I really dig the perfect story telling. Ironically i can see NaS doing something exactly like this, (he did... check the unauthorized bio of RAKIM, on the Street’s Disciple album) Perfect Song, probably Cole’s best to date to be honest.

16. Born Sinner
I kina don’t really understand this song too much, but i love the choir at the end with all my heart9you shud too). Cole raps aitee on this record. Decent ending to the album. It was supposed to be like a summing up of what he means by being a born sinner, but 1. It was too short and 2. He didn;t do too well of a job summing it up. This song didn’t move me, i know this because i don’t even know the lyrics and i listened to the album like 700 times. Fair effort by Cole.

In a nutshell Cole was able to do something very important career-wise. Craft his own path for himself, without losing his fans. In fact he gained more. The whole Yeezus Born Sinner thing i will tackle in a later review. Production wise amazing work by Cole, songcrafting-wise as well. My gripes come as it regards some of the lyrics but most importantly THE EMOTION. Cole’s album kina gets boring in the middle, and that is not good, at all. Especially in the era of hiphop we are in. This was a better album than sideline story but it had less emotion, which made sideline story a better listen than this. Cole however, was able to become the hero of a different worl with this project, and if u can relate to that world, then this album will resonate with you, like it did with me. All in all though 8-8.5/10.

YEEZUS?

In a time where the "hottest MC in the game" cud be logically summed to a fat ex-cop with a 16track album that uses about 3 n a half different beats, the hiphop community in general has grown accustomed to mediority and monotony. Not knockin Ross (i thought Teflon Don was like a 9/10) but we as a community have been stuck for a whilleee recyclin styles and flows and beats, to top charts and sell records. This being said what Kanye West did with Yeezus was bold and very much anti-cliche. Like it or not it commands a shit load of respect.

I don't feel like this album can be reviewed the conventional track by track way, the guerilla style release of this album, has as much to do with the music as the fuckin 808's and samples on the records themselves. Worldwide building projections, no singles, no artwork... no fuckin booklet(i knw i own a physical copy), this was Mr. West's big "fuck everybody, i can do what the fuck i want" moment. I felt this way after i lost my virginity, no bs. That being said, the tracks express that emotion perfectly, from the blaring synths(im not sure if thats hw u spell that word, i aint no musical genius) and rifts on the opening track "On Sight" to the fuckin name of the third track "I Am A god". Assuming we have all listened to the album (if you haven't you got no business breathing right now) i need not break down the tracks but more so whether or not i think it was "great" or "garbage". Ye gave us some classic moments of brilliance on this album, that's for sure. The rawness of Blk Skin Head, Blood On The Leaves(top 10 ye of all time worthy), the graphic I'm In It and eveybody's soulful favourite Bound 2. The Cons? in my opinion not enough verses from Mr. West... that's it.

Allow me to conclude by explaining that last part, (yea this shit was short sweet and to the point PLUS it all adds up). Kanye West gave us 10 tracks that went completellyy left field, but yet still they all manage to go in there own little direction(mindfuck). He did something NO ONE would dare to do in our time, and execution was perfect for the purpose of this album. If Kanye West went up and projected "Good Life with fuckin T-Pain" on buildings all over the world, people would fckin leave "mid projection" and walk home like WTF? Instead he shocked us with hiphop in a form we NEVER thought it could be expressed in. Kanye is still being Late Registration/Graduation Ye on severall moments on this album, he is just executing it in way he knows just might piss 90 percent of us off, which is thee point. Genius.

I asked everybody who told me this album was garbage, why was it garbage? Most if not all said this, "Idk its not for me i dont like it" so i said well what song/songs do you like? i promise 90% of them listed 6 or 7 songs. That 65% of the album they ALL like, but yet still its bullshit because well "it aint for you or it sounds dumb, or its not hip hop". I thought the album as brilliant, 10 songs that served their purpose perfectly. Every great artist has this moment in their career where they go against the grain and take a leap. Kanye had TWO of those(rmb 808's). I thought all the songs on this album were great, they invoked emotion in me which is what music is supposed to do, and it appealed in a way that i have never gotten from hiphop music. My rating, 9.25/10. Standout tracks... YEEZUS.(real tlk tho all except on sight and guilt trip)

Not ur average run of the mill review, i knw i knw, but rmb its Yeezus im reviewing, u knw that shitty album that we all hate, that was so unconventional hiphop-wise? how else was i  supposed to do this... the proper way? Peace Bruh!
